What do you do to get to sleep when you have trouble getting to sleep?!

Question: Insomnia problems. Any advice, hints or suggests to help fall asleep and stay asleep?

Currently take meletonin, sometimes Valerian and an Rx medicine to help with sleep but still have problems falling asleep and then the next day feel drugged out.

kk, how long have you had the insomnia, cos I've had it for 5 years (I'm 16 years old) anyways, look you have to lie in bed for 15 mins and then get up for 15 mins if you're not asleep yet and then you repeat this cycle until you're either asleep or so fed up you don't want to move, its a pain in the **** but it will eventually work. obviously cut the caffeine and try not to be dependant on the drugs- they'll make the problem worse. Do not sleep during the day and don't read or anything late at night. Try to get plenty of exercise and sleep in a well ventilated room. Good luck, hope you get this sorted.

Try keeping your eyes open, you'll soon drop off.

Second hint is to play a story on a cd, that works too.

I'm going to try hot chocolate tonight and some lavender on my pillow.

In my hairdresser's office, I was reading reader's Digest, and it said to "spray some lavender water on your pillow to soothe your mind".

I put the tv on real low on fox new network, close my eyes and listen to it. I am asleep in no time. I have sleep on my tv so the tv isn't on all night.

Forget the drugs completely.

When you're lying in bed, start off by thanking God for everything He's done for you that day. Think about both the good things and the bad. God uses bad things to help us to appreciate a situation. Then sing a praise song to Jesus, it doesn't have to be a traditional hymn, He's heard them a billion times, so make up some lyrics and sing them to Him, even if they don't make much sense.

Then get really quiet and ask Him a question, and patiently wait to see if you can hear His answer. It will be in a still, calm voice that you feel rather than hear, deep down in your heart. If after a few minutes you haven't heard, try again, still keeping quiet and prayerful.

This is nothing to worry about, it's the real meaning of Prophecy, hearing from God.

You may fall asleep naturally while you're waiting, but that's OK. Jesus wants you to have a good natural rest without drugs so you can be bright and alert the next day.

If you haven't yet received Jesus in your heart, try saying this prayer first :

" Dear Heavenly Father, please forgive me for the wrongs that I have done! I'm sorry, and I want to receive You into my heart through the Love of Your Son, Jesus. Help me to love You and others so that I can be happy and make others happy. Teach me more about You from Your wonderful Book, the Bible. In the name of Jesus, Your Son, amen."

Do that every night and soon you won't want the drugs, and you'll look forward to hearing more and more from Jesus, every night.

I know it's difficult to believe at first, but just give it a try and I know you'll be pleasantly suprised. I was!
