Answers: We can't get an appointment until mid April and he is in alot of pain.

try benedryl, or dayquil for the day. something over the counter for sinus pressure. Ibuprofen is for pain...

There are many solutions, over the counter sinus decongestants, saline sinus washes, even allergy pills are available. What is causing the pain? Ibuprofen is for pain and swelling, it will not help a sinus problem.

Advil Cold and Sinus.

its just a bad sinus infection. make him take sinus medicine

yes definetely

He needs to take a decongestant.

I can't remember what it's called but my friend swears by it for teh same sinus pain. It's a pot, like a tea pot that you fill with warm water and pour into your nose and it's supposed to clear out your sinuses. Sounds gross but it works.

*Edit:* I remember now..it's called a Neti Pot. here's a link i quickly found but i'm sure there's more.

gave him Tylenol sinus it help me with the same problem

I use Drixoral Cold and Sinus which is decongestant and antihistamine. I also like Dristan which includes a headache relief (don't have it handy for a list) when sinus head ache.

ibuprofen does not help its more of a muscle relaxer than anything. try the new mucinex spray they just came out with, with some sinus medicine. it will really help.

Are you SURE it is sinus related? My husband gets pains behind his eye -- they get severe and are in the migraine family -- men get them more than women and they are called "cluster headaches" -- he says it feels like a knife behind his eye. Google cluster headaches and see if he can relate to what it says there. It sure can't hurt to give him ibuprofen - that's for sure.

He should get some nasal solution that is saline and run it through his nose to clean out the sinus cavity. A nettie pot would be the best with sea salt solution. Then put a warm cloth on his forhead to take the swelling down and then cold.... 5 minutes each or as long as he can stand it.

I have had a lot of luck with Mucinex D lately for sinus troubles. You have to ask the pharmacist for it, they keep it behind the counter. It says to take 2 every 12 hours, I can get by on 1 every 12 hours. It has an expectorant and a decongestant and that combination seems to work well on me! I also put a warm wet washcloth on my face and it feels pretty good. Hope he feels better soon!

sometimes when I have a headache because of congestion- something like mucinex helps a lot!

ok get a netti pot and i am not sure i spelled that right but it is a sinus wash kit.. do exactly what it says and he will feel relief. i would say use it at least three times a day. that is what the doctor is going to tell you to do anyhow. seriously life changing when you are having sinus pain. it is a salt and water mixture that you are basically washing through the sinus passages. you do not get a lot of blood flow in there and when they are all packed in it is even worse so even meds that you take orally sometimes have no effect because it can't get to the problem.. advil and a sinus wash kit.. it will cost you about 13. at walgreens

He may have a sinus infection or a cyst in his sinus. It's best to get him on an anitbiotic as soon as possible so you may want to get him to an Urgent Care or Emergency Room.

In the mean time, have him put a very warm wash cloth on the area that is hurting. Also taking a sinus medication should help. Standing in the shower with the water beating directly on the area helps too. The aim is to open up that sinus and releive the blockage that is causing the pain. Warmth and humidity will help along with sinus medication.

Good luck, I've been through this very same thing an it's not fun. By the way, I've had both and sinus infection and a cyst in my sinus and they both hurt, but the warm compress helps.

my hubby was just suffering as well and this is what not only works for him bur me as well
take 1 loratadine and 2 ibuprofin / or 1 aleve..
it works best if you can take it just as you notice the symtoms.. once the pain becomes too intense .. it's harder to relieve the pain..
i also rubbed his temples for 3 hours and put cool washcloth on his forehead..good luck and my sympathies!!!

Use Relpax it really helps with sinus pain that's caused by headaches or migraines but i found it also helps with sinus headaches too, i've used almost anything you can think of for headaches and sinus pain as i have chronic migraines which means i have a headached every single day, i've tried everything, relpax works the best for sinus pain and eye pain.

I like to expand on the earlier answer of what is known as "nasal douching." I have suffered from sinus headaches and it DOES work, pretty much with quick results.

Here's what he needs to do:

#1 It's important that the water be at a comfortable "warm" temperature.

#2 Dissolve one-quarter teaspoon of Salt in one cup of warm water. (This amount of salt is soothing inflamed mucous membranes).

#3 You can do this by:
Either pouring it into your cupped hand and simply inhaling the liquid thru one nostril while closing the other w/an index finger. Or, you can inhale it directly from a small cup or glass in the same way. Or, you can tilt your head back and squirt the solution in gently with a rubber bulb syringe.

However he chooses to do it, he'll want to get enough water in thru his nose so that he can spit it out of his mouth.

Have him do this several times thru each nostril, then have him gently blow his nose. Tell him not to be discourage if he coughs or splutters. If he chooses to use this technique, he'll eventually learn to inhale the salt water neatly and will come to like the way it feels.

I hope he's up to this challenge. If so, he can say goodbye to those painful sinus headaches. And no more grouchiness, believe me, I know. Good luck!
