Need to quit smoking question?!

Question: I've tried in the past and was successful once but that was only after smoking a year and half and i stopped because my gf at the time didn't smoke. So now I've been smoking for a little over 4 more yrs. I really, really do want to stop...I've previously tried and was successful but only for a couple of weeks. I found my biggest problems to be these:
-I'm scared of gaining weight (i'll be honest I borderline on having an eating disorder) being skinny is one of the only things I love about myself.
-My body doesn't function as well w/out nicotine...(well after that 72 hr period)
-and finally, my biggest problem is the last time i tried I was successful for almost 3 weeks but I was still craving a cigarette...how long will it be before I don't want one anymore mentally and physically or is a constant battle for the rest of my life. I just want it to go back to when I was a kid, not thinking about them...I just am looking for a general est. on how long it takes to completely forget.

The urge does go away, but it takes a while. If you've been quitting cold turkey and that's not working, try the patch or the gum. I smoked for 20 years and tried to quit dozens of times, but the patch finally worked for me.

Good luck and keep trying.

you never forget, but it is a test of will to control the urge, i myself smoke but i can quit anytime i want, just have plenty of fruits instead, the taste of fruits is always in conflict with the smoking habit. don't put pressure on yourself, just let each day go by without the cigarettes.
