I heard anesthesia causes bloating. Anyone know or experienced this?!

Question: There is a period of time between being put to sleep and putting the breathing tube in that we breathe for you by mask. If you are heavy, or have upper airway obstruction for another reason, oxygen may be pushed into the stomach. If it's difficult to get the breathing tube in, or if the entire case is done with a mask (no breathing tube), oxygen/air/nitrous oxide is more likely to find its way into the stomach.

Surgery in the belly or pain medications can cause the bowels to shut down (called ileus) and that might lead to bloating, but is not anesthesia related.

Laparoscopic surgery involves insufflating the abdomen with carbon dioxide. That goes outside of the intestines, not inside. The CO2 is pushed out at the end of the procedure, but some remains and is absorbed by the body and breathed out through the lungs. Again, not anesthesia related.

They blow carbon dioxide into your body so they can see things better...not all of it gets out...that's what causes bloating & gas.
For some reason it goes up to your right shoulder.

Couldn't find anything on anesthesia causing bloating...sorry.
