It is very unwise to use cold medicine or any other medications to get high. They can cause you serious harm and even kill you. Medications are used to treat an illness or disease, not to get high from.
Here are examples of what it can do to you:
Severe abdominal pain
Sudden lack of physical coordination
Vomiting
The long term risks are not yet known at this time. I anticipate that as more of the studies come out, the long term effects will become known and I'm sure they are much more serious than your brother and his friends think.
Its not worth risking the possibility of permanent brain damage or death is it?
Please don't try it and if you can't talk sense into your brother and his friends, tell your parents. It may save his life.

it heavily sedates you. but i have heard of people taking so much robotussin that they actually feel like their on a psychotropic. its called robotrippin. side effects extreme drowsiness and you could overdose if you take to much.
Yes, there are lots of different cold medicines used to get "high."
Some people take "triple Cs" which are HORRIBLE for you and can kill you.
Some people drink robotussin and "trip" off of DXM. This is really bad too but not as dangerous as the triple Cs.
Some people drink codeine cough syrup which is basically getting messed up on opiates.
And make sure they never ever ever mix any of the above with liquor!!!!
when i was partying all the time i knew some kids that did that and they said it makes you see things kind of and makes you very drowzy and also make you feel like you've had a small dose of morphine.
you want cough syrup containing Dextromethorphan, aka DXM.
Hangin' out with dex isnt fun in my opinion. If you're going through the trouble of buying OTC drugs, go find some weed or something, it's better for you
