Pain killers addiction?!

Question: Two years ago I had a bike accident, I had suffered from a broken leg and fracture ankle. I was in the hospital for 1 month with a broken leg waiting for surgery. Now I have a pain killer addiction and I think the hospital is the blame for it. The hospital was feeding to my body, one shot of demerol every four hours and two percocets every four hours also. So every two hours I would get pain medication. Now Im really addicted to them and I think the hospital is the blame for it. Does anyone think I can sue the hospital for the suffering that Im going through? I really feel like they didnt not give me so many, if I would of known that they will get me addicted, I would of ask them not to give me all those drugs in a short period of time.

Thanks

Absolutely right. Hospitals must be held to a higher standard when comes to after-care. is suing them is the right solution though. some might argue in this case you are more likely to better serve the purpose as to attract with candy as apposed to sours. You do have the resources to start a small volunteer group/service to share experience strength and hope, accomplishing both informing hospital and the patient in the process helping ones own.

First thing- when you were in teh hospital, you needed the painkillers. That you got addicted to them is nobody's fault. What you need to do is talk to your doc, tell him or her that you are addicted to painkillers and ask them to help you get off them. You can slowly taper off and go to an addiction support group to kick the habit. Its your responsibility to kick the habit.

I can only imagine the level of pain that you were suffering at the time. The dosage that you have mentioned is not overly large. Without it you would have spent that month crying yourself to sleep.

I'm sorry that you are suffering now but suing the hospital is just going to make it harder for people to get proper treatment in the future.

There are lot's of support programs around that can help. Start at the hospital, I'm sure that they probably have a few names of programs.

Be well.

I don't know where your from but here in canada nobody is allowed to get medication in that quantity, here it is every 4 hours and they should have slowly weaned your dosage in the last week or two that you were in the hospital so you at least had a chance at tapering off.But i'm sorry to say this to you but it would be your choice alone about how you take the drugs now ....but talk to a lawyer and maybe you might have a case, also check your surrounding areas for addiction centers...good luck

Not there fualt . I knohw you don't want to hear that, but thats the truth. you can file a complaint with your local department of health or just give them a call to see if you've got a leg to stand on, get a lawyer and go for it, but when all is said and done you would have wasted your money and time.

Like the above, get help. Get clean, and get on with your life.
You can do it ! And in your sobriety you'll have no one to blame but you and God.

Not their fault. When u signed the papers for them to treat u then there went ur rights...........talk to ur doctor and try to get into pain management ...............get into physical therapy too. I am in both and i have a very bad spine defect (scoliosis) so i have to be on pain meds.......................

if thats all you were getting for the acciedent you were in..then thats not alot at all..
