Good sleep Hygiene:

If you have a lot on your mind, make a list, keep all the thoughts on the paper for the night. Try problem solving before bedtime.

Go to sleep wake up same time every day.
Have relaxing bedtime routine.
No exercise at least 4 hours before sleep.
Do deep belly breathing...in the nose, out thru mouth rest. Each for a count of 3. Do 5 minutes at a time. Make sure belly inflates & deflates With breathing.
Eat small sandwich on whole grain bread with lean protein.
If you can't fall asleep for more than 20 minutes get out of bed & read something boring, watch TV (no computer). When you feel tired, go back to bed...if continues, repeat.
DO NOT look at clock during night,
Keep room a bit cool
Make sure roo is dark

Drink Traditinal Medicinal's " Nighty Nite" or Celestial Seasoning's "Sleepytime" Teabags
Have chamomile tea.

clear your mind of everything. close your eyes and don't open them you will fall asleep. a lot easier said than done. i get that often.try this turn on the tv in your bedroom if you have one turn down the volume and put the tv on sleep. lay away from the tv. close your eyes and you will fall asleep eventually

I used to have trouble sleeping as well. Over the years I tried many different things (some mentioned here).
But found that when I used the right combination of sounds/music, that's when I started sleeping much better.
And now I have little trouble getting the sleep I need.

It seems to be helping a lot of people & takes out the years of experiments I went through.
Hope that helps.
