What you have done is good.
Apply pressure to the area to help reduce the blood flow if the bleeding should start again. However, make sure that the pressure is not tight enough to turn his foot a blueish colour or make it cold to the touch.

Tomorrow, make sure he goes to the doctor, as He needs a series of blood tests to ascertain why the bleeding was so severe in the first place.

I am a army med tech , and what you need to do is find some gauze or a towle and stop the bleeding ,. ice is good do , make sure to apply presure .. but your should take him to the er if the bleeding doesnt stop , as well how did it happen this could be cause for concern ... reply and i can help you out

he may have broken a capillary. Happened to my friend. Didn't stop for hours. If he is on blood thinners including aspirin, he may need medical attention. Take him to the ER if it starts again and doesn't stop.

CALL 9-1-1

what the army medic said is right
. Do not use a tourniquet. that is
a last resort used for an artery, or a major bleed out. tourniquets must be
applied correctly and released after a few minutes then reapplied or
you could lose a limb. they can do damage.

do not remove the bandage or gauze from the wound on his leg, even
if it is bloody, looks like it has been saturated,
add to it, do not take it off, simply apply more on top, and maintain
pressure but do not wrap a tight bandage around a limb. IF you take
off the saturated bandage, it will start bleeding again. It removes
the clotting process that has started. If you have
an inch or so of thickness of gauze pads on the wound, and they are
still being saturated, you need to get to the hospital. Try to take
notice of how much gauze you are using, so you can tell the doctor, I have put 10 pads or an inch of gauze and it is still saturated.Hospitals
nor ambulance services close, they are open 24 /7
