Cartlidge ear piercings?!

Question: I had a friend of mine take a sterile 16g needle to my ear because i was broke and I wanted my cartlidge pierced. It didn't hurt when she did it but as soon as she removed the needle from my ear blood was everywhere. And not just like a little blood, there was a lot. ALOT. so I took the stud out that she had placed in there and held papertowel to it until it stopped bleeding. then later in the evening I had to kinda force and different sterile stud back into the already pierced location. When I did this there was alot of pain, but it went away within a day and then everything was alright. But then I changed that back to the earing and now my ear is really red and has gotten swollen.I can't touch the whole ear without that hole hurting. Does anyone know what I should do or what is going on?

You have aggrivated a fresh wound, and possibly even infected it. Never should you ever change or handle a piercing as quickly as you did.
What I can suggest is salt water/salene soaks. Go to the pharmacy and pick up some epsom salt or sea salt and mix it with water in a small glass. Soak your piercing in it for at least 5 minutes 2-3 times daily. Clean it twice daily (when you wake up and before you go to bed) with a good cleaner like Spectro Gel. Use a q-tip soaked in hot water to gently remove any crust from the ring and turn the stud or hoop so the soap can do a thorough job cleaning. Gently pat it dry. Use an anti inflamitory pain med for the swelling and pain in your ear, and do whatever you can to avoid sleeping on that side of your head, you could irritate your piercing even more then you already have.

the ear is infected by the sounds of things and I would suggest that you pull what ever you have in there out, and save your money and have a professional do the piercing for you. they are not that expensive to have done. good luck

go somewhere where they do piercings, like piercing pagoda, or Claire's...or somewhere else. Most of the time they have solutions which you place on a cotton ball and hold on your ear for a couple times a day. Also, if you somehow can;t get somewhere or find the money at the moment...you can put SEA SALT, not table salt, in warm water and soak your ear for a couple times a day...either feeling funny dipping your ear in a cup or using a cotton ball to put the saltwater on. Do this for a couple minutes, 2-3 times a day. Salt water flushes the affected area and clears up most infections from piercings. You can also use anti-bacterial Dial soap everytime in the shower on your ear. It takes out any bacteria...making the infection clear up asap.

yes, most teenager do not realize that cartilage piercing is serious if not sterile, if not taken care of properly a major infection sets in and yes your entire ear is inflammed and sensitive to the touch..the infection at full blown results in what the Ear,Nose and Throat specialist refer to as cauliflower ear, it might not be at that stage or different type of infction....see a doctor asap...hope this helps
