Infiltrated IV?!

Question: Back in November the anistesia in my IV inflitrated on the top of my hand at the orthodonic surgeon's during a widom tooth extraction, and my hand is still hurting. I can't make a fist, and my hand is still a little larger than the other. I contacted the doctor and he keeps blowing me off. What should I do? I have put heat wraps on it and iced it and have been taking anti-inflamitories. Is there permanent damage?

Make an appointment and meet with the doctor face-to-face. If he/she has done some damage to you, then he/she needs to correct the problem. If this doctor won't see you, see another doctor and get treated for it. Meanwhile, get copies of your medical records from your current doctor and be prepared to find a malpractice attorney.

The needle may have irritated the nerve of your hand- and it may have also damaged it. Nerves take a long time to heal, too- up to a year before you can really tell what exactly is going to be permanent. I suggest you go see an orthopedic doctor and have it evaluated by somebody who knows about that sort of thing. Orthodontists know lots about teeth, but bupkiss about nerves and hands.

The best thing to do is seek a different opinion. See if you can find an orthopedic doctor in your area for evaluation.

I would go to a hand specialist, there could be damage, probably is because of the amount of time it should have been healed. You can also check with an attorney...
