Is this a puncture or something worse? And what should i do?!

Question: Ok yesterday i was running outside barefoot with the dog in the yard, and i tripped over a metal stake. I recall feeling something in the heel of my foot. Well i go inside, and i notice blood on my sock. I take it off and notice a small hole. Its stinging. I tell my mom, and she goes get some peroxide. In the meantime, i put a band-aid over it. After the peroxide, it felt better. Today at school, it hurt when i put pressure on it, and occasionally it would start to sting. The area is about the size of a pencil eraser. There's a really dark black circle in the middle, about mabye a little bigger than the point of a pencil and the rest of it is a lighter grey.

What is this? And what can I do to help it besides peroxide and staying off that foot? Any help would be appreciated!!

i would definitely say it was probably a puncture wound. and puncture wounds are pretty painful. if you haven't had a tetanus shot recently, you should probably get one since whatever you stepped on was metal. as far as the funky coloring goes, it could be blood under the skin - like a blood blister or really serious bruise. i've done that before and its quite painful as well.
so yeah, get the shot if you need it. put a bandaid on it during the day, but take it off at night so it can get some air to heal. and just watch it. if it gets worse or looks infected, see a doc soon.
you'll probably be fine.

The problem with puncture wounds is that they tend to heal over on the outside, trapping any bacteria and infection inside. If it doest have a way to drain it will just get worse and may need to be lanced. Keep an eye on it, and if it becomes swollen or warm to the touch, see a doctor. Also, if you haven't had a tetanus shot in a while, you might want to do so.
