Two problems that can cause lower back pain are weak abs or tight hamstrings. If you stretch your hamstrings it should begin to give you relief to your lower back. Remember, you shouldn't stretch cold muscles. So, do a light warm up, then stretch. You might see people show up to practice and immediately start stretching without warming up, then they take off into a full workout. Stretching is always better once you are warmed up and also stretch after you work out. Here is something you can try for your hamstrings. Sit on the floor and try to reach your toes. The key is to not lock your legs, but slightly raise your knees (only about an inch or two off the ground...no more) and as you reach forward toward your toes, keep your back straight. Don't arch your back as you stretch forward. By slightly bending your knees, you'll notice that the stretching is more focused toward the middle of your hamstrings rather than directly behind your knee. Stretch for 15-30 seconds, then rest and repeat for a total of three times. Also, if you lay on your back and pull your knees to your chest, the pain in your lower back should go away temporarily. Not that this will solve the problem, but if your back is ever really hurting, you can do this and hold it for some relief.

Also, this may seem a little strange, but what temp is your house? The colder you are, the tighter your muscles will be. I notice my back tends to bother me more in the winter when it is colder and the house is about 69-71. However, if I keep the temp at 74, then I don't seem to have as many problems. Also, sleep on your back, try not to sleep on your stomach.

Go and have it checked out. You could have nerve damage or a disc problem. At your age, you should haved good results from treatment. Try heat rubs and a heating pad. That should help relieve any tightness in your back and try to get to the doctor soon before your pratice starts in time for treatment, if needed, to start. Good luck. I know you want to succeed at your sport! So go for it and good luck!!

I recommend you to go to the doctor, because may be a lot of reasons, can be that you had made a bad movement, may be that you have a problem on your lower back, but you are really young, so I doubt that is the case. Go to see a doctor, and when you go to sleep, put a little pillow underneath your stomach if you sleep on your stomach, or on the side of your body that you sleep on, at the line of you waist, maybe a little lower. A pillow between your knees works good too, because they relieve the natural pressure that your body make when you are sleeping. But go and see a doctor, they find my lower back problem when I was seventeen, and I did not do nothing, and now, (I am 29) I have a severe problem...

Go to the Dr., it could just be muscle spasms, but it could be as bad as a fracture, especially if you are in contact sports. A lot of guys get injured like that in football and then pay for it for the rest of their lives with pain. Have you been in any other kind of accident, car, motorcycle, etc. Whatever, you need to have it checked by a Dr. and do it before you start football. You are too young to be disabled for the rest of your life just so you can play football!! Good luck, hope it's just muscle spasms.
