Cartlidge ear piercings? !!HELP!!?!

Question: I had a friend of mine pierce my cartlidge with a hollowneedle. When she did it, it bled and bled and bled so I couldn't actually get a stud in it. Later that night, I decided that I wanted a stud in it, so I numbed up my ear and forced a sterile stud through. It never bled or anything. So I figured my ear would be fine. But then I had to change the back, because I lost the one that was on there. so I took some of the stuff they give you when you get your lobes pierced and put it all over the back. I put the back on and ever since, my ear's been hurting bad. It's all really red and swollen and it hurts like a mofo to touch. Can someone tell me why my ear bled so much and the initial piercing and tell me what to do with my ear now, I tried taking it out, but it doesn't work because it's really tender to touch and because it's swollen I can't remove it. HELP!

* Whatever you do, DON'T take it out! *

If you take it out now, the infection will be trapped inside when the piercing closes up.

Most professional piercing needles are hollow. They are easier to make a bevel point that way.

"...forced a sterile stud through." Not a good idea. Quality body jewelry for ears don't come with backs. What I'm trying to say is, there is no way you could've sanitized the earring that you used to push it through. Who knows how many germs were on the earring or any other thigns? The bacteria on the earring is what is causing your infection - warm to the touch, red, puffy and painful.

Your ear bled so much because you put a needle through it. The blood vessels and veins in the ears are so tiny, you might've hit one the first time, but not the second time. If you would have gotten the earring in, the bleeding would've stopped right afterwards.

So, what to do with your ear? Make sure you keep it clean! Try not to get hairspray, shampoo, gel, etc., near your earring - it will irritate it even more. Take ibuprofen for the pain and swelling. Keep an eye on it for a few days. If it doesn't get better, go to a piercing shop and have them put in a piece of stainless steel jewelry. Quality jewelry makes a huge difference. If still no help, call your doctor for a prescription for an antibiotic. At this point, you can probably tackle this on your own, but if it gets worse, you'll need the meds, too.

Good luck!

keep cleaning it a couple of times a day so that it wont get infected if it isnt already, i have two of them on one ear at the top and when i got them peirced professionally they hurt and i got headaches with them, i also found they hurt longer than getting your lobes done, they should stop hurting soon if they dont stop hurting in a week or so check with your doctor

definately make sure that ear is clean as can be. or not to be scary or any thing but you might get collyflower ear. you can google it but i'm not sure if i spelled it right.

Sounds to me as though it's infected. I would go see a professional piercer. They will be able to help remove it or they might direct you to see a dr. for the infection/removal.
