If your hips hurt when you lay in bed at night is the mattress to hard or to sof!

Question: I had this problem. First I went to the doctor to see what the problem was and they told me I had arthritis in the hip joints. Then I went for a little physical therapy to learn how to strengthen and stretch the hip muscles. It was suggested I buy a memory foam mattress topper (mine is 5 inches deep). I also bought a body pillow because I sleep side to side and, with one leg elevated under the knee with the pillow, it takes the pressure off the hip joint. I don't have anymore pain in my hips; it's been about a year and a half now.

my hip hurts because of a hard mattress

maybe it's not the mattress??

i have problems with my hips and i don't find the mattress really makes a difference to my hips. my lower back hurts on a mattress too soft but never my hips.

I'M BETTING THAT YOUR AGE IS PAST THE 40 MARK. SOME OF US ARE GETTING SOME ARTHRITIS IN HIP AREA AT ABOUT THAT AGE. BOTH MY HUSBAND AND I BOTH HAVE PROBLEMS WITH OUR HIPS MY HUSBAND IS 41 AND I'M 50. MY DR. TOLD US THAT, THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. FIRST OF YOU NEED TO SEE YOUR DR. AND MAKE SURE THAT IT ISN'T ANYTHING MORE SERIOUS, WHICH I'M SURE IT ISN'T. ALSO I WOULDN'T SPEND ALOT OF $$ ON A NEW MATTRESS. TRY A HEAR PAD AT NIGHT, AND ROTATE FROM SIDE TO SIDE. GOOD LUCK.....P.S.DON'T FALL ASLEEP WITH THE HOT PAD ON. PRISILLA

your matress has to be too hard.

Could simply be you have trochanteric bursitis (inflammation around the hips) If you have had the same mattress for a while, unlikely to be the mattress.

I'm 29 and my hip and shoulder often hurt in the night or when I wake up, and its definitely because of a hard mattress. I never had it before i was married because my bed was soft, but my husband prefers a hard mattress. I could also be if you don't turn a lot during the night.
