Physical therapy question!?!

Question: it's very long but pleasee readd!!
i had extremley bad shin splints last spring and i may have gotten a stress fracture and it took me a year to get my mom to get me an appointment with an ortho, i'm now doing physical therapy for my legs because my achilles and legs are very tight beacuse of the way that i'm walking, (waddling gait), and thats affecting my back now too as well as my legs and posture, my mom says she is tired of hearing something new wrong everytime i come back from pt and says she's telling my physical therapist he has one month to fix it and after that i'm done even if i'm not completley fine again, is there any way i can convince her to let me keep going if im not ok or will my physical therapist explain it all to her.. she's a very stubborn person when she's angry and i just dont want her getting angry at my pt!!

The types of problems you describe are not readily fixed that fast...rather the repair process takes place over several weeks to months. I fully expect in one month you will still have discomfort...however, and this is where the profession needs to change...is that most people are capable of stimulating the healing process in themselves when given the proper education and instruction.

...It sounds like you've been in PT for awhile...so another month should really get you to a point where you can continue the exercises at home.

...good luck!

...we're used to being put under pressure to end therapy as quickly as possible...from patient's, doctors, insurance compaines, workman's comp...or in your case, your mom.

sounds like you have one horrible mom, sorry about that but some people you just can't talk with or change

a good massage therapist would be able to handle all your problems in short time, you may have one working on you as part of your PT sessions, the problem is the way health insurance works massage therapists aren't allowed to work on any area not prescribed directly by the doctor regardless if the problems are stemming from elsewhere or if it is needed to balance out your body... after your PT sessions if you still have problems you might want to try a massage session from a good structural integrity massage therapist (the best ones are likely to correct your problems in a single session, others drag stuff out and try to get you to buy multiple sessions and the like)

I can understand that your mother wants to see some results for her money, but I think that she is inappropriately angry. How about you arranging for a sitdown with the therapist, your mom, and you and talk about like mature folk. She seems not to understand what is going on. She loves you, and wants you to be better, and I am sure the therapist is doing her/his best, but let's get some communication. You don't need to be the brut of her anger. I'd like to her how you are doing in a week or so. Good luck!
