Is there a doctor in the house -- knee update & more questions.?!

Question: The diagnoses was: medial lateral meniscal tears in both knees, fibromyalgia (already aware of that), and a baker's cyst in the left knee.

The doctor took fluid from the knee and injected cortisone.

Rest, heat for pain, continue my medications for the fibromyalgia since it is mostly pain killers.

The next evening I had chest pains, but I knew it was not angina (been there, done that) -- racing heart, etc. and I could not find my nitroglycerine pills -- which was making it worse. Finally I got some out of the living room and found one of the 25 pill bottles -- very tiny for those who don't know. I could not get the lid off. All of it was aggravating and a little fearful.

The next morning, my mom said that cortisone could do that, but she forgot she said it and didn't know that it could. It was a fairly big dose. Can cortisone cause the racing heart and headache.

The nitro causes a severe headache, so it was no big deal.

Thank you!

Very scary things can happen in the body with steroid shots. I know the cortisone shot caused your symptoms from my own and my Mom's experience with steroids.

My Mom actually had an allergic reaction to a steroid shot the doctor gave for shoulder pain. The shot is ACTH which is similar to cortisone. My Mom's blood pressure went way up and I had to drive her to the emergency room for an epinephrine shot.

When me and my Mom used to take short rounds of lose dose oral steroid medication it raised our blood pressure and made our faces flush.

I'm sorry that you have problems with your knee. My Mom had a Baker's cyst in her knee but it healed. I had a cartilage tear and developed chrondromalacia, roughened cartilage, and had to have surgery. I hope your knee heals well.

There are no doctors here, so get on the phone, call your doctor, & tell them what's going on, & they'll pass it on to your doctor. If they don't call back within a reasonable period of time, call the office again.

I think this is one of those times when the cocktail you are mixing can be deadly. I agree you should immediately call you PCP and apprise them of what is going on with you. Come on--we all look forward to your Q and A and want you to continue for a long time...

I do believe that cortisone can cause headaches.I use to get cortisone shots into my spinal facets before my back surgery. They had to give me a twilight shot that made me feel drunk and sleepy.I would get headaches and I would also ache severely in my back for a day after the shots.I feel your pain as I too had a meniscus tear and a three centimeter hole through the bone in my knee that required reconstructive surgery. They put the cartilage from a sixteen year old girl in my knee. You should contact your doctor and explain what is happening.Heart Problems is not something to mess with.Prescription meds can cause many different side effects.Good luck.I hope you feel better and the heart palpitations cease.
