My percocets are making me sick?!

Question: I had surgery about a week ago and my doc prescribed me percocets. I am suppose to take them 4 times daily so I make sure I wait at least 6 hours in between. Well taking even one makes me feel like throwing up, makes me sleepy and when they start to wear off, I get a headache. I still have pain but I know its not nearly as bad as it would be without the pain meds. I really don't want to keep taking these because they make me feel so lousy. Is this normal or am I having a bad reaction to them?

Well, it can be normal for some people. Reactions are usually more violent. Try to eat something like a banana or apple sauce, or rice or toast before and after you take the meds. Also drink a ful tall glass of water when you take it. Pump up the fiber you are taking in as well to make sure that you are not suffering from being constipated as tthis can cause some of your discomfort as well. Try to go longer inbetween dosages as well. Make sure you are eating regular meals and snacks and getting as much exercise as the doctor reccomends for your condition. See if they will switch you to another medicine if it does not ease up.

You are not the first person to have an adverse reaction to that product. Tell your doctor that you need a different medication that will make you feel better instead of worse.

my guess is on the bottle it says oxycodone 10 milligrams and its a generic for percacet.. i sugest that you take a half at a time or ask from a doctor for hydrocodone if it stays this way..

alot of pain killers make people sick
always eat when taking them
if it keeps up ask a doctor for something else or another medication to help with the tummy problem

maybe take them with food or milk? to coat your stomach first?

It is normal, especialy if you are not use to them. Try breaking them in half. Take the first half and about 45 minutes later take the second half. If they are making you want to throw up, ask your doctor to call you in some Phenergan. You can usually avoid the headache if you take some ibuprofen between the percocets.
