tweezers and a needle
use the needle to widen the hole where the splinter went in his foot
and use the tweezers to pull it out
Your only (self-surgery) chance is this : soak the foot in hot water for about 45 minutes (it'll get really soft/gooey skin) soak a single edged razor blade in alcohol. Slice the skin parallel to the splinter. When "reachable" lift the end with a sterilized needle and pluck it out with a tweezer. Once out, cram it full of neosporin. If it's too deep for that..... doctor time.
If the splinter is too deep to reach with tweezers and a needle, I recommend seeing a doctor to remove it. You don't want to risk a) leaving part of it in there b) causing an infection, or c) doing more damage trying to cut it out yourself.
Go with the melted cheese guy. It works. I've done it but it hurts.
I agree, go with the Melted Cheese guy's answer. The one below seems a bit advanced to me and also allows more room for error.
I too have had to do it myself and his way works, it hurts, however it gets the job done.
