How do I end this horrible biting/fidgeting habit of mine?!

Question: So, I used to pick and pull the skin off my cuticles and bite at them. I tried cutting my nails really short but I still did it. I do this mostly when I'm watching movies, I don't even know I'm doing it til the movie is over.

During the day, I type a lot, so I don't pick my cuticles but I do bite the inside of my lip and it's causing the inside of my lip to get dry and peel and it makes me want to bite it more.

These habits are pretty gross and I hate that I do them, but I feel like I can't stop. :( I've quit smoking before, but this is way more difficult.

Try to do some of the following things to relax and not be as nervous as you are, these are signs of nervous habits and we all have them although some of ours are not as obvious and we all need to calm our nervousness down. Try to write or hold on to something that would keep you from biting your cuticles and nails. Another thing you could do is what a friend of mine did to her son to get him to quit sucking his thumb by age 5, she dipped his thumb in water and coated it with black pepper pretty good and when he put his thumb in his mouth, it was hot, and he did not suck on his thumb much longer after this. Hope that you can get this worked out.

If not the doctor can give you some nerve pills such as Paxil or something that will make you less apprehensive/

my daughter had the same biting habit. she kept taking one finger at a time and excluding it by using bandaids on it. it really helped her quit. i hope it helps you. it is a nervous habit.
