Water pill prescribed in conjunction with blood pressure medicine?!

Question: After going through different types blood pressure medicines, my doctor has finally come across one that is doing a great job of keeping it under control (Exforge). A side effect is that is retains water - I didn't even notice it until he pointed it out to me at my last check-up (I had "cankles"), so he prescribed a water pill to take as well, which I started to take this morning.

Now, I'm a male in my early 40's, and know nothing about water pills; what can I expect? Will I have to be making a mad dash to the bathroom every 15 minutes?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Make sure you take the tablet in the morning...You will notice you go to the bathroom more, but not an every 15 minute deal.

why didn't you ask your doctor this when he prescribed them?
