Who knows about torn cartilage?!

Question: My husband was just diagnosed with torn cartilage in his knee, and he has wear and tear arthritis. I am curious to know what his treatment will include. I am sure it depends on the severity of the tear. Is surgery usually necessary?

If it's a small tear, he might be able to live with it. If it's a larger tear and his knee is clicking or locking, it will have to be repaired, or removed. The meniscus has a very poor blood supply, so it won't heal on it's own.

My husband had his removed over 20 years ago, and now has severe osteo-arthritis. He is waiting for a knee replacement.

My daughter had hers repaired in one knee, when she was 16. It was a successful repair. However she tore the meniscus in her other knee, and the repair surgery didn't work. The meniscus failed to heal. She will be having another scope to remove it. The Ortho Dr told her he has to remove the entire meniscus. He also told her that he 100% guarantees, she will need a knee replacement years down the road. (She's 26 now)

well my docktor would want to do a knee replacement there some meds that are for joint repair you can try that and he would tell you walking would be great he would inject it with some stuff to see if it would help
