After an accident, I had surgery... need advice...?!

Question: I just had my arm shortened in surgery...?
Anyone ever had a bone sawed by a surgeon and screwed back together? They cut a small section out of the ULNA... one of the lower arm bones. Then they put like a plate in & screwed it back together.

I just had the surgery. I want to know how long it takes to feel better. How long until the bandages come off?
What else can you tell me?

normally a post operated forearm will be under rehabilitation for a period of 6 to 12 weeks, mainly a acute care by ice packs and gentle movements, then gradully by 3 weeks time u can be out of bandage and use some supports if needed, better u visit a physical therapist

It's really going to depend on what your doctor says, as far as when you can resume normal activity. I would guess a few days at the earliest.

Keep your pain under control by taking your pain meds regularly, as directed. At this point, don't worry about dependency or addiction. You are acutely post-surgical and that's exactly what the pain meds are for.

The biggest risk of any kind of bone surgery is infection, called osteomylitis. When infection sets in the bone, it can be very difficult to treat. Watch your incision sites carefully! Take your temp daily, even when you are home, for the first few weeks. Report any changes: increased pain, increased swelling or heat to the arm, immediately.

Good luck!

I don't know much, but I would ask the MD for referral for physical therapy...it will help swelling & speed healing.

I would guess it will take about 2 months to feel better.
Sorry I couldn't tell you more.

Here's to a speedy recovery!!!
