I hit my foot and a huge bump appeared instantly...wtf?!

Question: I was in the backyard, walking backwards while moving a table with my sister.
I hit my foot on the corner of a ladder that was lying on the ground. It hurt, but not too much. When I looked at my foot there was a huge welt (like a golf ball, it looks like a 2nd. ankle).
I think it might be going down already, but wtf?
did I hit a nerve? it is filling w/ blood? should I ice or elevate it?

If the bump appears instantly and is not going down, no matter how much pain you might have broken the foot. Some of the foot's small bones might have slipped out of place, and must be set back in their place.

Elevate it to wear it is above your heart. All ice does is prevent swelling so icing it would help with pain but other than that it wont do much good. You will need to see a doctor if it gets worse or doesnt get better.
