I have severe leg/foot pain anyone know anything I can do besides go to the doct!

Question: After working all day as a cashier my feet/legs hurt so bad that I can hardly stand the pain.I am overweight but I have always been overweight and this just started a few months ago. I am not sure what is causing it. I was recently on vacation (away from work)and had no problems at all the whole week. Back to work back to pain. I have to sleep with my legs propped up at night.I went to a doctor and he couldn't find anything wrong. I can't afford to go see another doctor as I have no insurance. If you have any suggestions please send them my way. Thanks

I agree with Tom K--I was in the same boat as you (and still am occasionally!) until I saw a podiatrist. I ended up with custom orthodics but I can tell you from what the Dr. told me, Tom K is right on. The Dr. said to get New Balance sneakers and a nice insert with a solid arch. That helped me for awhile but my heel pain persisted and I ended up with the custom inserts. Now my heel/foot/knee/lower back pain is GONE most days. Try to stretch your legs and feet often, before your foot ever hits the floor in the AM. Warm baths help (I thank God I have a large soaking tub!) and if you can take it Aleeve. (Orthopaedic Dr. who did my knee surgery 4 yrs ago recommended it) Do you have a pad to stand on at work? If not, ask if you can get one. Even if you have to pay for it! An anti-fatigue mat will make a big difference if you're standing in one place on a hard floor all day! Good luck!

Good shoes and the proper support insoles, even if you have to have custom-made orthotrics are where you may end up.

First, go to a sporting goods store and get a good pair of walking shoes that fit properly and trust them to know more abotu fit than you do, even if they are your feet. If you go for initial comfort, you may be going for the wrong then. Have them fitted with additional arch supports. Proper arch supports do not work their magic by just pushing up the arch. They actually lift the inside part of the foot up and more properly align the foot, ankle and lower leg. It is this misalignment that causes most of the initial problems.

Buy the most comfortable shoes you can afford & some insoles might help. You might ask your boss if you can sit on a bench while working might relieve the stress on your legs & feet.

I WOULD LIKE TO ADD BESIDE GOOD SHOES AND INSOLE INSERTS, I ALSO RECOMMEND SUPPORT HOSE OR DIABETIC SOCKS AND IF YOU ARE STANDING LONG PERIODS IN ONE PLACE, TRY SHIFTING YOUR WEIGHT OFF ONE LEG TO THE OTHER, PLACING UP ON A BOOK OR A STEP. THIS REALLY WILL HELP.
