Could I accidentally break my neck by cracking it?!

Question: I crack my neck often because it feels tense but could I accidentally break it by doing this? I cracked it a few minutes ago and I felt a shooting pain go down my back...definitely not good!

It doesn't take a lot of pressure to break a persons neck. If you crack it just by turning your head then no! the muscles will stop you. But if you use your hands to push your neck that much farther then it could cause some damage but not enough to seriously hurt you. The pain you feel is your nerves reacting. Short term you wont have any issues just maybe in the long run

yah im pretty sure yu culd ...i crack ma neck all the time and sometimes if i crack it wrong it hurts real bad but yah u prolly culd!!

I don't think so, but you could pull or tear a muscle. I have ripped a muscle in my neck and it took about two and a half weeks to heal. I would recommend ice for 30 min. then heat for 30 min. and just keep alternating.

Only if you dislocate your vertbra and cut you spinal cord.
Then your neck is a officially broken.

OMG- STOP CRACKING IT- I LIVE IN PORT SAINT LUCIE FLORIDA AND A 16 YR OLD GIRL WAS JUST ON THE NEWS SHE IS PARALYZED FROM THE NECK DOWN BECAUSE SHE SAID NOBODY TOLD HER CRACKING HER NECK DAILY EFFECTS YOUR SPINAL CORD AND PUTS EVERYTHING OUT OF WHACK- NOW SHE IS IN A WHEELCHAIR FOREVER- AT LEAST GO TO A CHIROPRACTOR THAT WAY IF THEY MESS UP YOU CAN SUE- STOP CRACKING!!!

I don't think you could unless for some reason you had VERY brittle bones. Like if you had osteoperosis. My chiropractor cracks my next all the time. It freaks me out because I still have the fear in the back of my mind that he may snap my neck. He told me it was virtualy immpossible, especialy of you are doing it do yourself.
