These are some ideas that might assist you.

Ice is always good for the first 24 to 48 hours. I have found an anti-inflammatory (advil) is always good, not only to control the pain, but the inflammation, which allows the area to heal.

One of the best things I have found also is an Epsom salts bath. It allows all of the metabolic waste to move out of the body thru the skin vs. it's normal process. The bath also allows the muscles to relax and you to rest.

Essential oils of Lavender, Eucalyptus and Peppermint in equal parts 2 drops each to a teaspoon and a half of oil or lotion massaged into the area will really be beneficial.

Also, look at the emotional element of what your body is saying.

Have you been unable to speak up for yourself recently?
Are you feeling rebellious about something?
Are you not feeling supported emotionally, financially and/or are you spending time in the past with some old stuff?

Rest is always the best. Ice and heat alternating 20 minutes on 20 minutes off is sometimes helpful as well.

Hope this helps you in some way.

well if u hyperextended it then u should definitely ice it and rest as much as u can. the fact that u had back pains just from soccer practice/tryouts probably means that there is an imbalance in ur core muscles...ur lower back is stronger than ur abs making it more contracted when u run/walk which can increase the strain on it causing it 2 hurt. when u full recover from ur injured back u can start doing ab exercises 2 strengthen ur abdominals 2 try and prevent any more back pain

Go to a Chiropractor and then get some soft tissue work done to help with the swelling.
