Should I be worried about my husband having hiccups for several days?!

Question: They come and go ALL day and night long. They quit for a little while then come back again, even at night when he is trying to sleep. He is going on 3 days now. He has tried everything to get rid of them but they keep coming back. Should I be concerned or is it no big deal?

Hiccups are caused by the diaphragm. The reason why we hiccup is because the diaphragm isn't properly placed. You hiccup to get your diaphragm back into place.

It could be the way he's eating/drinking/sitting/breathing. All of those could be the cause for his hiccups.

Take notice of how he eats/drinks/sits/breaths. If it's too fast, or unusual, then that's the reason. If it's just normal then --- Idk what to tell you...

I had the hiccups 4 days straight. All I did was not think about it and stand up completely straight while drinking water and sat up right. It went away just like that.

Hope this works!
Good luck!

Felate him, deeply; he'll be cured and happy in no time flat.

it means he's not getting wnough air to his brain have him take deep breaths

is he on anti-depressants??

It depends! If they have been non-stop, then YES! But if there on and off for several days it just means he hasnt got rid of them yet! Get him to hold his breath and swallow 3 times! IT WORKS! (the third swallow is hard)

There was a man who had them for like 60 years
and a girl who had to drop out of school because of them

okay i might not be helping lol

no reason to worry

cause theres nothing you or a doctor could do

sorry

i bet theyll go away tho

Prolonged hiccups can be a symptom of heart attack.

If he has ANY accompanying chest pain, get him to the doctor immediately.

Belching is also a symptom, and these 2 conditions are often ignored because they are so common.

While most of your responders indicate that it's okay or they know someone that had hiccups for 60 yrs, I know you would rather be safe than sorry.

If you want more information, type, "hiccup heart attack" into your search box.

Prolonged hiccups that last for days may be symptomatic of underlying disorders. Certain drugs can make a person more prone to hiccups.

Certain lung or brain disorders can sometimes interfere with the functioning of the diaphragm and make the person prone to hiccups. Hiccups may also be a side effect of surgery or particular medications. Having said this hiccups can sometimes occur for no apparent reason, but I still suggest you get medical attention.

Honestly, no. One man had the hiccups for 68 years! Many people say that the hiccups are in in your mind, and are easy to get rid of, but others say that a simple scaring will get rid of them. Either way you look at it, I don't think you need to go to a doctor, and try to breathe "regularly". I know that sounds odd, but it works in many cases. Good luck with your husband's hiccups!!

It could be a sign of a heart problem...no joke
