Constipation question?! Happy Easter All!?!

Question: I have been constipated for a few days now from pills I am. I fell on the ice and gave myself whiplash so I was on many painkillers a day. Short story, they ended up constipating me.

Last night after I ate dinner I started getting indigestion pain and went to bed (probably bad move). About 2 in the morning I woke up with a severe pain in my upper abdomen and between my shoulder blades in my back. It's like someone is tightening a belt around my whole torso for about 5-10 seconds each time it contracts....?!?! I took Ovol (which I think is the same as Gas-x) and it cut it for about an hour until I woke up again with the same pain. I just took a few senokot and it feels like it is working.....Could this all be caused from the constipation?

I am not a suffer of any heartburn or indigestion so I wouldnt know.....Not usually a suffer of constipation either but with the anti-inflammatories it is a different story

Thanks and Happy Easter all!

* pain, fullness or discomfort in the upper part of your abdomen or chest
* heartburn
* loss of appetite
* feeling sick or being sick
* flatulence, burping or belching

Those are all the main symptoms of indigestion. I think the first symptom pretty much sums up what you're feeling. The senokot should work.

go purchase a bottle of Magnesium Caltrate from your grocery store or walgreens, cvs. the lemon flavor is the best.

drink the bottle within 5 minutes and you'll start feeling the relief in 30 minutes!

sure could be caused by constipation. as you are well aware the pain meds will cause it. whenever I have to take pain meds I have to add one Colace or Senokot a day with them at the suggestion of my doctor.

painkillers such as morphine based ones cause constipation. if your clogged up then you may have abdominal pains and trapped gas. you did the right thing taking senakot.

depending on your age and health, i am a bit concerned about the pain in your chest/back, the crushing type pain can indicate heart problems or an acute cardiac problem. its not intended to worry you, just so you know if it happens again. it could just be a pain from your fall.

it is probably to do with the constipation, and so long as it clears up in a few days i wouldnt worry about it. go and see your doctor if your concened.

You know what gets the bowels moving 100% everytime for me? Prune Juice. Down half a bottle of it, wait for 2 hours, and i can almost guarantee you'll go at it. coz it works for me, ALL the time. This and grapefruit juice too. But prune juice is Best! Papayas help. Load up on food that has rich fibres to re-activate the digestion. If you have bad constipation for prolonged periods, you'll suffer these pains.
