You didn't really describe what kind of lump. It could be a swollen gland, but could also be a cyst. A friend of mine had one recently lanced that occurred under her ear. If the lump resolves itself, in say 7 to 10 days, then don't worry about it. If you develop other symptoms like fever, or if the lump forms a head, then I would see a doctor as soon as possible. Other than that, if it is painful, try warm compresses.
I often get a lump come up under my ear when I have an ear infection or a bad cold. It may be that your glands are slightly up, however, if you are concerned it may be worth going to see your doctor for a professional opinion.
It does sound like an infection, some people get that on the eyebrows too. Have it checked out just to be safe. Its probably nothing serious.
