I ALWAYS pass out and sometimes throw up whenever I have to have my blood taken?!

Question: I don't know if I just get so nervous about it that I pass out or if it's an actual medical condition. I have to give 4 vials of blood today for my dr. How can I prepare myself? Are there things that I should do before that might help me not pass out or get sick? Thanks!

You are probably dehydrated. Drink a lot of water a few hours before you have blood drawn. Also, have the lab tech lay you down with your feet elevated instead of sitting you up in the draw chair.

I believe it's a medical condition that a few folks have.
Your responds in panic when pierced.
Ask your doctor about it. Maybe a mild sedative first or something.

All you need to do is to tell yourself that this problem is a case of mind over matter. You are allowing yourself to pass out and sometimes throw up because you don't have the will power and determination to prevent that from happening. All you need is a bit of will power and determination to refuse to let it happen.

Probably the best approach is to simply switch off when your blood is being taken. Refuse to feel anything. Try going into a trance and meditate or try falling asleep. Whatever you do don't look whilst the procedure is in progress. Look away and don't be scared. Being scared is probably what triggers off these problems.
