Best medication used for back pain?!

Question: I used to work at a nursing home, I quit a week ago when all this back pain began, I get this throbbing pain in my lower back & then it shoots sharp pain up my spine, I've taken tylenol etc, nothing helps, I cant even sleep right, I dont know what's wrong with my back & what kind of medication i'd need to get rid of it.

If painkillers, please name which one.

WELL THAT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE U HAVE A PINCHED NERVE AND U WILL HAVE TO GO TO UR DOCTOR CUZ THAT PAIN WILL NOT GO AWAY JUST LIKE THAT. WHEN I GET PAIN LIKE URS I TAKE MOTRIN 800... AND MY DOCTOR GIVES ME T3'S ALSO .. BUT IF U CAN'T MAKE IT TO THE DOCTOR TRY ADVIL PM IT WORKS.. BUT WITH UR PAIN IT'S MORE SERIOUS... AND IF U GOT HURT AT WORK U SHOULD HAVE NOT QUIT.. CUZ U MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO COLLECT.. BUT ANYWAYS GO GET CHECKED THAT PAIN WILL NOT JUST GO AWAY..

I sometimes use a heating pad for back pain. Good luck.

Advil. 3 of them.

see a neurosurg doc in case you have done serious damage, otherwise physio/chiro/massage could help. valium can help with spasms and shooting pains. heat packs, NSAID creams and a stronger painkiller might be in order - codiene etc
all the best

If you're looking for non-narcotic pain relief then codeine and valium for the muscle spasms.

Percocet is good for severe back pain but it's easy to build a tolerance so for long term use, you may want to alternate between that and some non-narcotic pain relief.

My heart goes out to you.

Hope you find something that works well for you!

hi, i know a little bit about back pain, so i'll help answer this as best as i can.
When u have back pain that radiate, or move into different places around your body like to your neck, upper back, hamstring, or your leg, or make certain part of your body numb, then it's probably related to nerve. Maybe because when u worked in the nursing home, u might have lifted something heavy in an improper way, or hurt it by accidentally slamming it into something, or maybe of wrong sitting or standing poster. What i would strongly recommend is that u keep in mind what are the signs and symptoms of that back pain, like what u do that aggrevate the pain, is it there all the time, is there any bruising or swelling, any thing that might have caused that back pain(like injury or accidents), stuff like that, then maybe write them down in a note, and go to see a good doctor. I wouldn't advice u to depend too much on pain medication , because as u may have known, what painkiller mostly do is that it hinder the nerve transmission , and depend on the strength of the med., it help u feel less painful and irritated even though the pain, or the injury, is still there, only u can't feel it fully. As with any medication, over a long time, the more u use them, the less effective they are....

The best thing i can say to ya is that to go see a good doctor that know what's he/she is doing, take an X-ray of your back, and depend on what the doctor recommend, u can go see a massage therapist, or a chiropractor, or go to physical therapy, and the doctor will probably instruct u on how to lift heavy things properly, showing u a few stretching exercises for your back(which play a strong role on your recovery over time), telling u to apply heat and ice as appropriate, and advice u to not abuse your back too much, giving it the time to heal, and maybe give u some prescription pain medications like percocet, motrin, naproxen, and many other, to help make the back pain more tolerable.

summary is: go have the back pain checked and treated as soon as possible, not depending on medication.:D

Alright, take care, i hope u recover from your low back pain soon!! ^_^

i would go see a doc first,,but in mean time yea a heating pad helps or maybe even a hot bath an just lie on it,,then maybe some tylenol,,or advil,,something over the counter,,
my wife has this problem,,she was prescribed lauracets 7.5's,,but in a way this ant a good thing cause you become addicted to them..that can cause a problem,,
your body then becomes use to no pain,,then if something happends you cant get no more or something you will start hurting worse an start hurting in places you have never hurt in before..
good luck

the very best over the countre pain med i have found for a back ache is " BAYER BACK AND BODY' works great for a back ache !!
