I've been having pain in my left rib cage for a week now what could it possi!

Question: It has gotten worse each day, and is worse with movement, like when I reach up in the cupboard for something. I didn't fall, pull a muscle or do strenuous exercise that would cause a pulled muscle. The pain is a constant 1-2 level but shoots up quick to a 5/6 with certain movements. I can't sleep on my stomach or left side, it hurts too much. If I press against something with my left side, it hurts so bad. I can't seem to localize the pain, it hurts all around my upper ribs, but not chest, the front, side and back. I can't tell which area it is but the pain is just affecting all those areas. When i move, it feels like something is rubbing, and it is a burning pain. that's the best i know how to describe it. it also hurts more when i take a deep breath.

I am not a doctor, but if you have had a respiratory infection or bronchitis etc., recently, you could possibly have pleurisy. It's an inflammation of the pleura in the lung, which is, I believe, the outer lining. It's not serious usually and can affect either side , but you should probably have a chest X ray and see your doctor to confirm this. Usually NSAIDS, non steroidal anti-inflammatory meds will help. I had this and it took it a while to go away and I had some problems with my stomach using the usual NSAIDS, even shots caused nausea and vomiting.

it could be that you might have broken a rib. A lot of people will play some sports and then hurt their ribs and not even realize it. they might feel the pain and then think its just a bruise or something. Ribs don't take too long to heal. Thats pretty much the most optimistic version I can give you. And it usually applies with the symptoms you described.
