How can I refrain from biting the insides of my lips?!

Question: I have a really nasty habit of biting the skin off of the insides of my lips. I do it so much that my jaw gets tired and I think it has worn my teeth down a little bit. It's not a nervous habit, as I am very rarely nervous. I think that when I find a bit of loose skin in my mouth I bite at it and can't make myself stop. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can keep from do this?

I have a nervous habit of biting the outside of my lips. I found that you can't bite them if you have a sucker in your mouth or a piece of hard tack candy. I would suggest you get some lollypops or hard candy and always have something in your mouth until you teach yourself to stop biting your inside lips. You can use sugar free if you don't want the calories.

how about a mouth guard. i use one at night becasue i grind me teeth and the dentist is worried about enamel loss. it is made of clear plastic so you could wear it during the day. if people look at you wierd so what its your dental haealth at risk

I would recommend picking up a pack of your favorite sugar free gum, and when the urge strikes you chew on the gum instead. Also, a hypnotist may help you with this problem placing a subliminal suggestion but don't count on your insurance to cover the visit.
