Shall I go back to work tomorrow ?!

Question: I hurt my ankle last week Monday and I was going to go back to work tomorrow. However, when I spoke to them this morning they said they can give some work to do in the office for this week, but I must be able to go back to my normal duties next week if I do this.
I've been to see my GP and she didn't examine my ankle, but just wrote me a sick note for a week and told me to see her towards the end of the week for another one, if there's no improvement.
I don't like letting anyone down, but am I better off using the sick note, just incase the injury doesn't improve enough by next week ?
How can you predict how you will feel in a weeks time ?

Don't go back to work until your doctor signs you off.

You must allow your ankle to heal properly ...otherwise, with the job you do, you might do more damage than good.
Remember that it's not now you will feel...It's when you get older that the effects will start to bother you.

What do you do for a job, and what can you not do withthis ankle since the accident and why did she not look at the ankle when diagnosing you?

You know your own body best, if your ankle doesn't feel completely healed by then use the sick note, otherwise you can go back to work (unless you want some time off anyway).

I severly twisted my ankle once, and I was able to walk on it fairly easily after about three days. Also, midol helps with the swelling and pain. Which is weird cause I'm a dude.

Sick notes are a dime a dozen...bottom line do what you want to do.

If your sick note is still current(i.e it still has a few days until it expires) you should not go back to work. You may not be insured at work and could get the company into trouble. If you want to go back get your doctor to clear it for you....

your swollen any where? can u move your foot left and right up and down without any pain? you should elevate the injured part with some ice and wrap a tensor bandage around your ankle using the the figer 8 type of wrap and take some tylonal or ibuprofin for the pain and swelling ok? im not a doctor im a guy who knows first aid.

I think you should use the sick not myself Kirst as the Doc wouldn't have given it to you if she thought your ankle was ok. If your job involves standing or walking then it is better to be safe than sorry. You don't know how it will be the next week so having this week off will give you chance to rest it and gauge how you feel about going back. Hope it is better soon Kirst!!

Kirty use your sick note you are not fit for work at home or there that is why she gave it to you. So no do no work for them at home you are off sick my friend and you have a note to prove it.

stay at home kirst you have a sick note to cover you rest it ,i know you are like me and don't like letting anyone down ,but your health comes first use the note and then go back to office duties next week , by then it will be two weeks from now and your ankle will be so better because you have had plenty of rest !!

I'd go with the Sick Note Kirst......The Doctor wouldn't of given it to you if she didn't think you needed it hun !

I think you should have a sick-note for at least this week. Imagine if you went back too early and then had to have more time off - you'd have to lose the first few days AGAIN and would be worse off all round 'cos you'd need LONGER off to re-coup

Use the sick note...you could do MORE damage by going back too early.....

great a sick note!! go for it, at the end of the day you are just
a number at work, they wont think anymore of you for coming in, if the doc thought you where well enough to work he would not have giving you a sick note, but be care full if work ask you to go in and the doc says your on the sick , your works ins may not cover you if some think did happen.
