Fat lip and don't know how I got it?!

Question: I was drying off from a shower yesterday and I just barely bumped my lip with my finger. I do have longer fingernails too. Within seconds my lip was swollen and painful.
Now, the next morning, it looks like I got punched in the mouth and it is only tender to the touch.
Is it possible that I punctured my lip with my fingernail, making it swell up so fast?
Is it normal for a lip to swell up like that in seconds??
How do I make it go away faster?

Put some ice on it or a bag of frozen veggies like peas or corn.

You might also want to clean it with rubbing alcohol and treat it with neosporin. If it was punctured then it probably got something in it that caused it to swell up.

Also take an antihistamine like Zyrtec, Benadryl, etc if the swelling still won't go down.

from back-talking...i told you once

if you actually want them to be smaller if only temporarily use a product containing allum, like china shrink cream or mens creams to control bleeding from shaving nicks. it's used to help shrink skin and the effect lasts up to twenty four hours. Use only a very small amount.

Check the inside of your lip for a scratch or cut. Yes, it's normal for the lip to respond very quickly to injury. You are better off not putting anything on it. Your best bet is to keep it clean and let it heal. Ice wouldn't really do very much now...ice needed to be put on it early in the injury. If it becomes painful or keeps swelling see your doctor.

It could be from you bumping it- but like you said you barely bumped it. I would put ice on it for swelling and take benadryl. It sounds to me more like a allergic reaction- did you use different shampoo, soap,or body wash that day. I have to take allergy medicine everyday or I break out in hives- and my lip and eyes swell. Best of Luck!!!

you could try polysporin .. I use it and I am allergic to neosporin. Try using ice to help the swelling go down.
