How long should I keep my operation bandage on for?!

Question: Last friday morning, I went in for a same day surgery. They made the incision right below my waist right above my left leg. I'm really curious about the scar and I just want to take it off. It's like one of those cotton cloth things(they put them under the bandaid when you get blood drawn or a shot) and it is covered with this shrink wrap(seran wrap-I know I spelt it wrong). Should I have already taken it off or should I keep it on until the follow up surgery on April 4th?

Was this a Cardiac Cath? Either way as long as the saran wrap is covering it keep it covered. Let them t tell you to take it off. April 4th is right around the corner. You may be able to find some similar pictures of other people who have had the procedure on-line. If it is absolutely necessary for you to take it off call the doctor first.

They should have told you on discharge whether or not you could remove the bandage and when. Check the discharge papers you signed before you were released.

You will need to keep it on until your next appt. with the doctor.
I had surgery in Jan. and they put the same thing on incision.
I the shrink wrap will help keep it dry and clean.
I was not to take it off until the doctor checked it .

Please call your doctor and ask when it is appropriate to remove the bandages. You should have received detailed post surgical instructions upon release. Don't worry too much about the scar-it's too soon to see if it's a cool one or not. The scar you see now will not be the scar that will be permanent if at all.

It should have came off a already. Leaving a bandage on for that long is unsanitary and could lead to infection. You need to take it off and change it ASAP!
