Is It Okay to Ditch Crutches Early?!

Question: I Have a bad Grade 2 sprain on my left ankle, tore ligaments and tendons on both sides and front of the ankle. In an aircast for 4 more weeks.
The doctor wants me to use crutches for 2 weeks, It has been a week and a half.

But my right ankle which was always my worse ankle is starting to really hurt and I almost sprained it again yesterday when using the crutches when it landed wrong. Now I am afraid to keep using the crutches as the pain is getting worse in the right ankle. So I just want to stop using them now instead of Monday,

Now I know I should call the foot doctor and explain, but I never told him about the pain in my right ankle. I have lived with it so long that it is second nature to me. I also did not want tests on it as I am paying for it out of pocket. I get insurance in June so I am hoping that I can avoid get hitting with a pre-existing condition. I also know that in either July or August I will hurt the ankle I always do and then I will get it checked o

The majority of the load bearing is on the good leg when you use crutches, the crutches are not load bearing. So it is normal for your load bearing leg to become sore. If you do not want to talk to the Dr. about this stay off both of your feet, access a wheelchair when available and hang in there until Monday. Use the crutches don't ditch it and this is about all I I can say if you won't tell your doctor.

I think it's a better idea to call your dr to see if you can have a visit with a physical therapist or someone in their office to teach you how to use the crutches properly.

no not really you should ask your doctor as you could cause more damage than anything else.

haha. I ditched my crutches early haha now im just walkin w/o them. You're not supposed to though. Applying pressure to the injured area can cause swelling just ask a doctor or a friend to show you how to use them. Im sure they will be glad to show you.

Always follow doctors orders but you should have told him/her about the other ankle. I kinda/sorta have the same situation goin on now. I broke my right heel and sprained my left foot or ankle. I'm on crutches or at least I was. I had the cast put on Tuesday and found very quickly that it was not feasible, as far as the left foot was concerned, to use them. So I opted for a walker and it allows me to apply much less pressure on the left foot when coming down.

Do what you want to do....those Doctors don't know what they are talking about.

Next time be more truthful to start as it will avoid issues later on. You must have realized that using crutches was going to irritate your right ankle.

Call the doctor and explain the problem. Just take it easy and avoid going out for the next few days, You need to let your ankles heal;

As soon as possible I would get that right on checked out, to avoid long term problems.

Do not make a bad situation worse by compounding problems,
