Nope, its a short sting and then you're in the clear. Just think about your favorite sport when they tell you to look away

EDIT: I saw you like runescape. Maybe you should just think about killing somebody in the wild or going on your favorite quest if you don't like sports

It feels like a shot when they insert the needle. It shouldn't hurt after the initial poke. If it does, you need to tell them so they can reposition the needle. I've had to have that done before.

why yes they hurt

a little at beginning

Nope its just a 'scratch' as they say, simple way of defining it. You should worry more about it afterwards if you get an infection with an open wound-just look out for really red swollen surrounding the wound.

You'll be grand. All the best.

No. well for a second. I know your a guy but wat my mom tells me to do is while they do it rather squeeze her or another nurse's hand real hard. trust me. I was in the hospital last month for 2 weeks. i had it in the whole time. sleepin too.

It depends to some extent on the skill of the person starting the IV. Doctors and nurses who constantly start IVs as part of their work tend to be better at it than those who only do it occasionally. They all do it regularly, of course, but those who do it dozens of times a day are very smooth.

In any case, it hurts in the same way that a shot hurts. If it's for something like anesthesia, sometimes you'll be given something else in advance
