Swollen throat gland, no signs of infection, came on all of the sudden, what did!

Question: Eating my brocolli last night and felt a pop under my tongue on the left side, in two seconds my troat gland swelled, under my tongue swelled and I had shooting pain from tongue to jaw to ear, only on left side, thought I might have pulled something so decided to sleep it off. This morning left side of throat still swollen, like a golf ball, tender to the touch, and hurts to swallow, infact eating makes it bigger for awhile. just had xrays at dentists last week and no abseses, no fever, no puss or abnormals on back of throat and had my tonsils taken out two years ago. What do you guys think? What could it be? What could I have possibly done, and how can I get better? Heat helps a bit, cold doesn't do anything. Thnx to all that answer!

You really need to see a physician- since it seems to be related to eating, my first "educated guess" (not to be mistaken for true medical opinion)- is that is related to your saliva gland. You may have a stone in your gland that has plugged it up- you could also have a rare condition called sjogren's syndrome. (It's an autoimmune disorder where the body attacks the saliva glands, but would be slower onset, I believe.)-

Please see your doctor- if it's a stone in your saliva gland, they will know how to fix it.

You need to talk to a doctor. If this was sudden, all the more reason you should make the call to a health professional. I have no idea what would cause this...if it had been gradual, I would say take some aspirin, and some EmergenC, but popping and sudden symptoms can mean something serious (it may not be but you should check).

see a doctor
