Pain on left side of back near kidney and some foam is urine?!

Question: My mom is 55 and is constantly getting sick. Usually gets a sinus infection- 4-5 times a year. All of a sudden on Monday, she gets this pain in her back near left kidney, and by Wednesday she had a fever of 103.2 with horrible shakes.

I went to the store to get her chicken soup and she was skaking like crazy. Now she has no fever, (Tylenol helped) but pain in her back near left kidney keeps her up at night. Sometimes, a stabbing pain. When she is still, it does not hurt. When she wakes up she has some foam in her urine and its bright yellow. Her urine gets clearer throughout her day.

She works at a residential treatment center for at-risk teens. You think she could be allgeric to anything there? What could it be? Before she started working there in April 2005, she rarely got sick with a sinus infection.

She wants to go to urgent care. I'm thinking her DR. will tell her to get bed rest and take a OTC painkiller. Her Dr. can't give her a 3 day note for work, only 1 day.

Your mother obviously has two very different problems going on. First off, what makes this an emergency is that based on the symptoms you described (especially the fever) she could have something wrong with her kidney (ie: kidney infection, kidney stone, cyst, etc), but there is no way to tell you just what over the internet. The pain she is feeling needs to be evaluated by a urologist who will take an KUB or CT scan w/contrast of her kidneys to see exactly what's going on there. Second, there are so many possibilities as to why she gets the frequent sinus infections, this too needs to be followed up by a doctor, an ENT if possible. One possibility to look into is that the place she works in has a mold situation going on...some ppl are very sensitive to that. This is just one opinion among many I am sure you will get. Ultimately, your mother needs to decide what to do in this situation since it is her body. Good luck!!

Go see a doctor ASAP

9-1-1....

uh...emergency room.

She needs to see a doctor. She has kidney stones. If the doctor will not take her in NOW, then go to your nearest ER.

Def go the a Doctor as soon as possible. Like now is a good time. Hope all is well.

i would take her to a doctor it could be a kidney stone but i really dont know my mother in law got sick when we were coming home on a trip and she just started throwing up and having a fever and hurting really bad and she was good half way there until we got close to home but go to a doctor

She has a serious infection - she must go to the MD ASAP.

This sounds like pyleonephritis, an infection of the kidney. This can be VERY dangerous! She needs treatment and assesment ASAP, espeically as she is running a fever. Remember that kidneys are the organs that filter out waste from your bloodstream, and a kidney that is working poorly can cause systemic damage. This kind of infection can also cause "sepsis", basically a systemic infection throughout the bloodsteam, Sepsis can be fatal if untreated. In addition, the vessels in the kidney are very small and delicate and permanent damage can be done.
