Sciatic nerve?!

Question: I have tons of pains in my butt/hip area and the back of my thighs. I am pretty sure it's my sciatic nerve. Some nights I stay up all night just wanting to cry. Some weeks it worst than other weeks. Is there anything I can do to make this better? Should I go see a doctor about it? I don't think they can really do much about it. I just don't understand why I have so much pain in those areas.. it's unreal sometimes.

This does sound like Sciatica (pain from the sciatic nerve due to compression or irritation of a branch of the sciatic nerve) It is unusual, however, to have it on both sides. This really concerns me a lot. Most people have sciatica from vertebral disc problems but there are other causes some of which are serious and need immediate medical attention. Due to the pain on both sides(if I am interpreting your question correctly) I encourage you to see a doctor soon.. There are excercises to help reduce sciatica but which ones you do depend on what the cause is. To do the wrong ones can cause damage. Also physical therapy such as ultrsound treatments can be beneficial. I really appreciate what you are going through. I remember wandering the house at night crying from the pain and no position seemed to help. What I found worked for me so I could get some sleep was to lay on the floor with my lower legs (from the knee down) up on the couch. I do encourage you to seek a diagnosis from a physician before starting exercises or other treatment modes. A really good source of info is www.spine-health.com/Wellness/Exercise/S...

Yes, try to go to the doctor in order to check whats the real cause. Because some doctor advice to have an x-ray to check if there's a problem of your nerves .

Yeah, you are right, it does sound like your sciatic nerve.
There isn't alot that you can do to help it except for alternate ice and heat 15min at a time about every 2 hours. Place the ice pack just to the right of your spine inbetween your spine and your hip. If you don't have any perscription pain medication you can try Aleve Liquid Gels, they are pretty good as far as OTC goes.

If it continues you may want to see a doctor just to be sure that you don't have a ruptured or herniated disc in you lower lumber region of you back. The only way to see something like that is with a MRI, so don't let a doctor try to diagnos you with out one. Usually the nerve will relax and stop giving you alot of trouble if you pamper it a bit. I recently had surgery to remove a ruptured disc that was pressing on my Sciatic Nerve, they can be very painful.
Good Luck.

I ahve treated thousands of sciatic nerve conditions. It is really the Periformis a muscle overlapping the nerve that is the diamiter of the thumb. This nerve ends in your great toe. I you dont go to a massage therapist, try laying on a hard surface and lift up your pelvic girdle enough to insert a tennis ball between you and the floor. Place it approximatly where the pain is and gradually lower your weight down upon it until you feel a good hurt. As it releases administer more of your weight until the hurt goes away.
