I get this a lot when I have a cold. It is AWFUL and so painful. It is a canker basically in your throat or also known as a throat ulcer. Throat ulcers are painful, open sores at the back of the throat that can make necessary actions like swallowing and eating virtually impossible.

Step 1:
Call your doctor and make an appointment. If you don't have a doctor, visit a local walk-in clinic. Throat ulcers are usually a symptom of a viral infection and often require drug therapy.

Step 2:
Avoid eating spicy food that will irritate the ulcer and intensify your pain. Stay away from citrus juices and alcohol too, as their acid content will aggravate your throat ulcer.

Step 3:
Gargle and rinse with warm salt water three times per day to soothe pain.

Step 4:
Use a medicated mouthwash twice each day. A pharmacist will be able to direct you to an over-the-counter mouthwash that will kill bacteria without adding to your throat ulcer pain. You may want to shelf your industrial strength mouthwash for a while, as it may trigger intense discomfort.

Step 5:
Monitor your symptoms closely. If you are unable to eat or drink anything, experience high fever or other dangerous symptoms, call your doctor's office immediately or visit the emergency room.

Many doctors I have seen in the past are not familiar with this condition so do not be shy...tell them what you suspect you have. If they do not listen, go to another doctor. If it is very painful and keeping you from eating, drinking and sleeping they will sometimes prescribe percocette or some other pain killers.

strep......hope your DR did a back up culture....rapid streps are NOT always acurate

cancer...IM JOKINg. i hope you dont have cancer. =\

it has to be strep throat. do you feel weak sometimes? and it hurts to swallow then you got strep throat

I used to get random white dots on the side of my throat all the time. I believe it's hardnened mucous and it happens when I'm fighting an infection which I used to be doing all the time! Gargling with salt water seems to help. If you use an asthma inhaler it can also be a sign of a yeast infection from the inhaler. Nothing to worry about -- you might just be fighting a run of the mill sore throat.

Gargle with warm salt water every two hours and if it persists. . . go back to your doctor and get retested for strep. Good Luck!

it's a baby frog, it will grow a bit bigger into a full grown frog and you'll have a frog in your throat for a while until he decides to come on out of there.

It could be an irritated or infected tonsil stone (tonsillolith).

maybe it is a tonsillolith or tonsil stone, a tonsillolith is food particle build up in the pores of your tonsils, they make your tonsils swollen up, and your throat feels sore, u can use a cotton swab to try to remove it from the tonsil, maybe you'll get some gag reflex, but that's normal, sometimes there are several and it's kinda gross.

It's a tonsillolith!! I get them too! Like you I get a sore and irritated throat when they come. Tonsilloliths are completely harmless (although annoying) and they're simply buildups of things like plaque and bacteria. After a while the tonsillolith will come up or you'll swallow it...either way you'll probably notice. Sadly, tonsilloliths are usually reoccurring and the only cure I've heard of so far is getting your tonsils removed. If they really get to you that's always an option. Anyways, hope this helps! :) (P.S-try looking it up on google, you'll get lots of results!)

I would advise getting a more accurate culture done (one that is allowed to produce germs over a period of time- I believe 24 hour culture). Rapid strep is handy at times but is not always as accurate as the usual culture for strep.
