Neck injury out of nowhere? Please help??!

Question: I have school in one hour and have to decide quickly whether or not I'm going to school.

Here's the problem. I missed yesterday's classes because of a very stiff, sore neck and shoulders. I could not move without it hurting. I thought it was from the way I slept so I tried taking a hot shower to relax my muscles and I tried getting rest.

This morning I woke up and the pain has not gotten better. I have a hot compress pad on my neck to try to ease some of the pain but I can still barely move my neck without it hurting.

It's crunch time right now at school.

Help! What should I do?

ha to the answer above... you've really gotta be kidding me.... you really think that will heal the neck huh? Alright before you go running off to a chriopractor.... go have it checked out and get a referral for either chriopractics or physical therapy. You really dont want a chriopractor doing any adjustments on your neck unless you know for sure that there is no nerve involvement. Best to be safe on this one and see a doctor first. In the meantime try to use cold or heat.... sometimes cold has a better effect if the injury just happened and if possible try to very gently and slowly stretch your neck!

Slow down on the shift stick...

You could of pulled a muslce in your neck so the best thing to do is see your doctor :)

Stay at home. Necks are delicate and you shouldn't put strain on it if it's stiff.

Go to a chiropractor. You've tweeked something in your neck and or shoulder.A quick re-adjustment and you should be ok. Skip the first part of school and get an appointment.

Maybe it is due to stress. Take some ibuprofin. Getting a massage would help too. I once had one that went from my head down my neck and shoulders down to my elbow. I had a pinched nerve and went to the chiropractor. They gave me an adjustment and massage therapy on my shoulder. It took a few treatments, but it worked.

Stress can cause this kind of pain, so can posture (hunching over, even using the way you sit in front of a computer) and/or if you slept wrong. But no matter what caused it do not use heat alone as it can cause any immflamation to get worse. 1st try icing the area and alternate with heat (if necessary). Do you know anyone who can massgae your neck for you? If there is still no improvement by tomorrow I would go see a doctor.

Try slowly stretching it, ease the muscles slowly, and gently.
It may also be stress-
*Breath slowly. breath in count 3, breath out count 3.
*Imagine a peaceful place. wherever you want it to be...
- an ocean
-a flower garden
*Imagine a path and go down it for 10 sec.s
