I want to quit smoking! I say that to myself everytime I lite up a cigarette.?!

Question: I am too broke to buy patches, gum, pills for this problem but there are things I need to stop smoking for and I'm willing to try I just don't know how. My husband is a heavy smoker so me cutting down to beable to afford those things that supposibly help would not work out. When I try to force myself not to smoke I try to forget it by doing something that keeps me busy but shortly after getting busy I'm craving a cigarette again. No need to go into detail, you smokers understand. any ideas?

Would your partner be willing to give up with you? That would make it slightly more fun and adds a challenge to it. Who can last longer etc etc?

Write a list of all the things that you would benefit from by quitting and keep it with you at all times.

For every packet you would normally buy, you could replace this with patches, gums..they cost roughly the same. Or speak to your GP and see what can be done for cheaper. If you really want to quit, then you can do it !!

I am a smoker, but don't feel like quitting just yet !! hehe

it would be super-hard if your husband is a heavy smoker--the temptation is always there! you say you can't afford patches, gum, or pills for this problem, but think about this: if you stop buying cigarettes, there's that extra money. Go figure!

You stand an excellent chance of packing in because YOU want to (the majority of smokers fail to stop because they don't really want to - they just feel obliged to because of external pressures). If you live in the UK patches, gums and pills are all available on the NHS. Make an appointment to go and see your GP and he/she can go through all the options with you. There is so much support available out there - go for it. Good luck!

I will trade you men for awhile, mine doesn't smoke. Always on my case. I once tried, so I know what you mean by the craving & giving in finally. I also know that if we really truely wanted to quit, we could. You have to have that certain mind set in order to do it on your own. My brother smoked heavy over 20 years, quit, cold turkey, 24 years ago. He said the first two weeks were horrible, after that each day got better. Still took him a good 5 years before he quit thinking the smell of cigarette smoke smelled good. Now he can't stand the smell. I know it will be harder for you since your hubby smokes. Is he willing to not smoke in the house, or else give him one room which he can do it in behind closed doors. Good luck to you!
