After you quit smoking, how long do you wait until the craving stops?!

Question: the actual habit of smoking (reaching for your cigarettes wanting one at the usual time) is split between psychological demands and the actual need for nicotine. my cravings quit within 2-3 days with the help of nicotine gum. but then i had to restructure parts of my life that related to smoking. including convincing my friend that i was serious about quitting and that i was sure i didn't want a cigarette.
but it was one of the best things I've done and truly hope you
can quit. you will be so proud of yourself. and feel much better about your future. guaranteed
i quit 11yrs ago after smoking for 14yrs now the smell of cigarettes is offensive, but i still think about having one, and all i do is think about it and realize I'm happier without them ,not to mention my health.
good luck

im afraid i know a guy that stopped 18 yrs ago & still gets cravings...

Sorry, but I'm sure you won't like my answer. I gave up last July to coincide with the smoking ban in public buildings (I'm English) and I still fancy a cig whenever I see someone spark up on telly. you just need to work out if you REALLY want to give up. If you do, just be strong...

I quit Feb 7th and I am getting better. I was worried about the cravings too but I think its all up to you and what you really want to feel. If you want to get over it, stop asking others what to expect. You are an individual, so your going to feel different than the next. Alot of people are very negative about things. Have faith in yourself and just remember how much good your doing all around.

OK, well, I am an addict in recovery and have tried to quit smoking several times. I just don't want to quit cigs yet. When I stopped drugs there are and were alot of 'tools' I learned and still use to get out of a craving. Move a muscle, change a thought is a great one. Do you know you're triggers? Do you light up when you see someone else, when you get bored, angry, frustrated, etc.? AVOID those situations for atleast a few months. It's hard, but if you really really really want to stop, you must practice these methods. Cravings don't go away, they just lessen.

The strong chemical cravings of nicotine addiction should lessen in about two weeks. However, a person is not considered above the temptation of smoking until they have been smoke-free for two years! It is the social stressors and mental habits that become the greatest temptation. But, this can be overcome with strength of will! Good luck and best wishes in quitting, you're saving a life, your own.
