How long did it take you to quit smoking marijuana?!

Question: I've smoked pot since I was 13 and now that I am in my 30's I constantly think about quitting. My "pot" habit is no longer to get high but more of a "smoking" habit. I switched to cigars but it wasn't the same (taste gross, bad aftertaste) and I absolutely HATE cigarettes. They are repulsive. I'm to the point where I know it's time to quit but my problem is... I continue to smoke and then feel guilty after I've done but somehow manage to roll another a few hours later and go through the same guilt process. I work from home so I am here all day and tend to smoke blunts like people smoke cigarettes. I smoke about 4-5 a day. I've been able to kick all of my other bad habits except this. Haven't smoked a cigarette in 10 years, only have a beer or wine about 2-3 times a month and stopped eating junk food. Can you give me advice to kick the habit? Keep in mind, it has nothing to do with getting high at this point.

Well I can agree with you on the "not getting high" thing. And regards to the gentlemen who questioned the quality of pot you smoke (who cares how good or bad it is, it's still pot) and I feel he should have given you better advice if he did quit. Personally I don't think he did either.

Find some hobbies like you mentioned to replace the "pot". Get some puzzles, a video game or a pair of skates like you said. When you get that urge, replace it with something else.

Also, cut off anyone who supplies it to you. That means delete all of the phone numbers/email addresses of the people you get it from. If they call you, don't answer or politely explain to them about your situation.

As you said you're home all the time. Get the remaining pot out of your house if you have any and if you have bongs or pipes, toss them out. If they have sentimental value, well tough S*#$! Throw them out.

Oh and don't get discouraged if you slip up. I'm not saying it's acceptible behaviour, but if it happens learn from it and don't do it again. It took me 4 months to kick the habit.

And lastly... You will experience a lot of sweating and probably will have a hard time sleeping. Give it a couple of weeks and it'll go away.

But... No matter how long you go without smoking, it's always going to be in the back of your mind. Make sure you stay strong.. You mind can overpower your urge as long as you are serious.

Good luck!

lol im pretty sure no one on yahoo can help u but if your really committed to stopping you can go to a rehabilitation center i don't know if it cost money but if it has to do with your health why worry about the cost

Quick look out your window the FBI is coming!!!

Just kidding, after so many years of smoking you may need professional help. Try a hobby something that does not give you the chance to smoke. Maybe go outside and plant a new plant(Not a cannabis plant). But I will tell you if you family or friends smoke weed It will make it very hard to quit. The first step is to get it away from you and seek help.

Well if you are smoking that much pot and it is not about getting high you must have some really inferior pot. I did it for 30 years so don't go telling that it is not because you get high. As far as stopping I really do not know what to say. It can be simple and it can be hard. All I can tell you is that you are in denial big time when you say it is not to get high. Maybe you really believe that but if you saw a shrink who was expert in it they would set you straight tuit suit. Until you are out of denial in your addiction and stop saying it is not to get high I really cannot help you. You are a typical junky and you know that because if you really believed that you were not you would not aske the question. If you do not believe me why do you not ask the question of some professionals or find a narcotics anonymous forum on the web and ask them. You will get the same answer. "Not to get high" Give me a friggen break....Please!
