Sprained/injured ankle?!

Question: I have recently injured or sprained my ankle at a track meet. ( i fell on it funny). I barely swelled up and I could walk on it with little or no pain the next day. I didnt visit a doctor or the hospital, in stead I just stayed off it the day i hurt it and visit the next day. But when i woke up I could walk on it. I missed practice the next day and then it was the weekend. I feeling well enough to return on Monday, but im not sure if i will hurt it again.(im a sprinter and hurdler)

Anyways, under these circumstances, what do you think my full recovery time will be? and when do you think I will e able to run or hurdle again?

If there is no pain or swelling whatsoever, it should be okay to go back to practice. Just be sure to stretch and warm up really well to reduce that chance of hurting it again. Also, if you have an athletic trainer at your school, it would be a good idea to have them tape your ankle for you to add support.

If there is pain or swelling, ice your ankle (15 minutes several times) and stay of the track until it is better.

Strains, sprains, and even some minor fractures of the ankle well with home treatment. Some torn ligaments do well without a great deal of medical care; operations to repair them are rare. For practical purposes, the immediate attention of the doctor is necessary only when the injury has been severe enough to cause obvious fracture to the bones around the ankle or to cause a completely torn ligament. This is indicated by a deformed joint with abnormal motion. If pain prevents any standing on the ankle after 24 hours, see a doctor. If little progress is being made so that pain makes weight-bearing difficult at 72 hours, see the doctor.
RIP is the key word:
Rest
Ice
Protection
And good luck.
