2-5 days
I am sorry...I didn't read your details. You are on the right track. The only way to lower the tolerance is to stop taking them for a little while. Any short acting narcotic pain reliever will cause you to build up a tolerance. If you are not going to be taking them for a long duration, ask you doctor if you can increase your dosage. The problem is that you will still build up a tolerance.
If you are going to have to take pain medication for a long time you should talk to your doctor about prescribing you a long acting time release pain medication such as oxycodone or a duragesic patch.
It all depends on your pain level. The meds I mentioned are for accute pain. If you are able to stop taking the meds like you have, your pain must not be that severe.
You just need to talk to your doctor.

I don't think that your question is correct.

When your body begins to build tolerance towards a certain medication, it stops working the way it should, and it will continue to stop working for many many years. It's not a matter of it staying in your system, its a matter of your body building resistance towards said medication period.

If I remember correctly the reason towards this, is because viruses and pain evolves over time, which means that because you've taken those drugs, small doses don't seem to work because the evolution of your body.

This happens very commonly between women who've taken birth control for too long, and your body builds an immunity to the medication, even though it is supposed to help your body.

I think you should try taking a different kind of medication, and speaking to a doctor and explaining that your body developed an immunity towards those medications, will prompt him or her to prescribe something secular to those, but that still removes pain. I hope this helps.

As far as lab testing for codiene levels It can be detected for one day in the urine but only 12 hours in the blood. The half life of a medication is the amount of time that it takes for the med to only be 1/2 as effective in its purpose. So in actuallity the codiene remains in the tissues for longer than it shows up on these tests. the half life of codiene is 2.5 to3.5 hours. It will remain in your body at low dose for several hours after that. Try using tylenol or ibuprofen for the pain. Hopefully it will take the edge off enough to get you through. good luck
