Why is it so hard to make a doctors appointment nowadays?!

Question: If i phone first thing in the morning i cant get through. By the time i get through there are no appointments left.
When i ask to make an appointment for later in the week im told i cant and will have to phone back on the morning that i want to make an appointment.
Its driving me crazy!

hey are you under the same doctor as myself?

Lately we have been unwell first my eldest son came down ill then myself then last week my 8 month old son was really ill trying to get in to dr was inpossable i asked for a home visit for my baby as he was really unwell, they told me you have to ask at 8:30 in the morning, well its vertually inpossable to get through then let alone get an appointment, was told to phone back next day for an appointment, i ended up ranting on at them, in the end i was put throughto the dr on the phone who asked me to bring my baby to the surgary, on doing so, dr had to decide weather baby should be admitted to hospital or send home with lots of medication. decided on the second but kept check through the night by phone to make sure he never deteriated,
Thankfully after being pumped with antibiotics hes much better now and getting back in to mischief,
It does not bare thinking about what could happen because its so difficault to get to see your dr nowa days, it wouldnt be so bad but when you do get to get an appointment the surgary is always so empty, so i guess they only see a set amount of patients in anyone day,
going back to when i was a kid you never needed an appointment, you would turn up at the surgary give your name in, be given a number to waite to its your turn. them days surgarys was always full and ypour dr always had time for you.

Its like the Nurse i have to see my nurse every 4 weeks to have regular check ups for my blood preasure and see if medication is working on, its so difficault to get an appointment its now been 7 weeks since i last seen her,

?Midnight~Angel?

more people are making them i guess

It is because sadly the doctor business has sucummed to being just that, a business! They are more interested in how many they can get in and out $$$ instead of how many people they can treat. I get really mad at the whole realization of what has happened too. Good luck getting your appointment.

well, i have never heard of such a thing.. i would switch doctors.. if you just love that doctor then,, tell the lady .. hey i DO call on the day of my appointment and i can never get one.. ask her what she is going to do about that

This is the receptionist being funny ask to speak to the doctor.

thats the rules with my doctor too, u have to phone at 8-30 non stop till u get through as its always engaged, and if u do finally get one u have to go on a computer to sign yourself in instead of telling receptionist. why are they there??

because we are a small island with limited resources and are now grossly overcrowded due to all the immigration and asylum seekers,
which in turn has meant, that out limited resources are now grossly over stretched and on the verge of collapse.

sad but true.

You have to try to ring as soon as they open. My surgery opens the phonelines at 8 and if I want an appointment I sit at the phone from a couple of minutes to 8 and just keep ringing and ringing. failing that just go along at the end of surgery and say its an emergency.

Doctors appointment diaries are made out month by month and there are so many people on the surgery list where I come from. Every person in my town also knows that the best time to phone is between 8am and 8.30am for a cancellation. That is why we are sometimes told to phone early in the morning incase some cancellations are made. If there are five cancellations and thirty people phoning for them then its just your luck if you get through and manage to nab one of the spare appointments. If its an emergency and you feel you cant wait then most surgeries would find an appointment on the same day for you. Some surgeries also have a day when one of the doctors do phone consultations so its worth finding out if yours do. Home visits are generally kept for people who are too ill to travel to an appointment. If you feel its urgent there is also the NHS 24 Helpline. Some times its a matter of perseverance, hope you get thru.

so many are sick right now thats why.I would just go to office and make the appointment as soon as they are open.

I think GP are a waste of time any way,you are allowed ten Min's and you are treated like a text book case, they are just go betweens any way.a gp told me when I went with having pain under my rib cage ,that I had strained my self,I told them I had not and told him to refer me,I had tumours in my gallbladder.......they then close ranks to make out you are one of them that causes problems, when the truth is I rarely went to the doctors, when I complained no one got back to me ,they have there own set of rules and a line patients should not cross,no longer do we have people that do the job because they want to make a difference, and that is the truth of the matter as I see it,must stop as I have stepped on my soap box lol

wait till the surgery is shut and phone the emergency doctor appointment guaranteed or go the walk in center
