Could I have broken a bone and not known it ?!

Question: I think I may have broken a bone in my foot, but cant remember doing it ?theres no bruising and no pain when I move it but if i press/touch the area just two centimeters in from my toe next to my 'littlte' toe it hurts sooo much! I broke a bone in my foot years ago but that was when a steel chair leg went on it and it came up like an egg and went black, but this is not like that ?

hmm. maybe you have a clot in your foot and it feels like you broke your foot

maybe it is just sprained?

phone your neartest hosp first and ask them the waiting time it might be shorter than you think.

Might be arthritus, needs looking at, why do mums do that? put themselves last, bet you would of had your kid to hosp straight away.

If you can stand on it and move it without pain then it most likely is not broken. Most likely you sprained it or have a bone bruise. Try icing it and take Advil for the pain. Stay off it as much as possible, I know that is easier said then done, especially with children.

If if still bothers you in a few days go to the doctor for an x-ray.

Best of luck!

You could well have done. I broke my wrist when I was 7 (13 years ago) and it still aches when I play my violin for a long time all these years later lol.
On the other hand you may have damaged a muscle or a nerve or something. You could go to the doctor first to avoid a long casualty wait:-)

I think it is possible, although, as you say, the symptoms may vary. Your 'steel chair' injury was obvious and you knew you had a break. However, you could have a hairline crack in the toe. LIke you, I had such a pain in my left foot, without remembering how I did it. To be honest, there is little that a hospital could do for a small broken bone. I sympathise but all I can say, as a non-doctor, is to try to 'keep off it'.

In comparison, a colleague of mine broke his kneck playing rugby many years ago and didn't know it! He carried on playing! Only later did his neck begin to feel stiff and more painful. After X-Rays he was encased in a plaster cast around his head and neck. The cast was two feet tall and he looked like something from outer space - but he still turned up for work!

He made a full recovery, as I am sure that you will do - but without a huge plaster cast around your foot.!

Best wishes and over the next couple of weeks try not to 'put your foot in it'!

Without having an x-ray, it is impossible to say. Years ago, my pals wee boy broke his arm(greenstick fracture) and he managed to carry on for almost a week without too much pain. As the wee fella kept complaining, the doctor advised an x-ray and discovered that it was actually fractured. If your symtoms persist, I would try to get to the casualty department, just to keep your mind at ease. Maybe you could have somebody look after the kiddies for a couple of hour to let you go. Good luck..

It doesn't really sound like a broken bone from what I know (which honestly is quite little). Normally there is swelling and limited movement with a break, as well as the pain. It could be a ripped tendon but it's a guess. Give it a couple of days and see how it goes if the pain is OK. The worst that can happen is that it's broken and heals in a strange position which will require being re-broken and fixed. You would feel a bone in a strange position if this were the case though. People do sometimes break bones without noticing and I remember reading in a biography about Buster Keaton that he broke his collar bone (at least I think it was that) and didn't know until having an x ray for a completely different complaint years later. The doctor asked when he had broken his collar bone and he replied with 'I didn't know that I had'. Basically bones heal on their own so the only thing the doctors do is reposition them if they are out of place and give them support so that they heal without interference. If the bone isn't out of place then it will heal with little support in your foot.

Good Morning,

Please go to the hospital. I understand that you have two children who are special. However, you cannot be your best for them if you do have a broken bone that is uncared for and untreated. It's better to be safe than sorry by going for x-rays.

As for taking your children with you, call a neighbor, a friend, a family member, your spouse, a co-worker or somebody else that can accompany you or come and relieve you at home with them while you seek medical attention.

I understand the inconvenience, however, you need to seek out that medical attention.

Good luck and have a good day.
